BW User Interface

SAP BW comes with a set of tools for the development of the user interface. The most important ones are the

SAP Bex Analyzer

The BEX Analyzer is still the user interface most commonly used for querying data in SAP BW. It can query so-called Infocubes, Data Store Objects and other types of Infoproviders. The output is visualized in MS Excel. The BEX Analyzer is not only a tool for querying data but can also be used for the planning component of SAP BW called Integrated Planning. It allows to write plan data to the BW system which is stored there in a persistant way.

With SAP BW 7.x, the results of different queries can be presented in a single Excel sheet without major efforts. In addition it offers design components like drop down boxes, configurable filters, charts and other design elements. This allows the development of very functional and intuitive user interfaces without taking away the possibility to realize a real OLAP analysis.

SAP BW Webreporting

The Webreporting component allows to access dashboards, operational reports and planning functionality via a web browser.

The user interface is light-weighted, quick and intuitive with multiple design possibilities, including multiple type of filters, more than 30 chart types from Line diagram to Heat Maps, Geographic Maps, Tabs, Document Integrators, user defined menus and many more items. The rendering process (i.e. the generation of the output visible of the end user) is done cost-efficient in the backend. From BW 7 EHP 1 on, the output is now AJAX based for an improved user experience.

The development of Web Applications is quick and the design model clear. Numerous wizards help to implement user interaction and advanced functionality.

Information Delivery using SAP Portals

SAP Enterprise Portal is the selected tool for the controlled delivery of information to the end user. Using the role concept, information is directly delivered to the end user in a transparent way. In addition it offers the interaction of business users in a joint analysis processes and the delivery of information and events on a push basis (Broadcasting). Especially an automatized exception reporting can be a very useful functional tool in order to prevent unpleasant surprises and inform all interested parties on time about recent exceptions affecting the business.
